Before You Go...
- Passport
All visitors must have a valid passport to enter Europe. To minimize or prevent delays at passport and custom checks while traveling, your passport should be valid for at least six months following your scheduled return to the United States.
Non-US residents should contact their local Embassy or consulate for travel requirements. European Union nationals can carry either their passport or identity card for travel within Europe.
Don't forget your passport! We recommend that you make two photocopies of your airline ticket and the first page of your passport. Leave one copy at home with a friend or relative, and bring one copy with you, keep it separate from the original documents.
- Money
Credit cards & ATM's: Always inform your bank that you will be traveling overseas in order to avoid your bank blocking your card(s) due to unusual transactions. Ask your bank what fees will be applied for you using your card(s) or withdrawing money overseas.
Traveler's Checks: Can be replaced easily if lost or stolen. Always keep a copy of traveler's checks in a safe place in case they need to be replaced.
Money-exchange outlets: Conveniently placed in airports, train stations and large cities, but with less favorable exchange rates than ATM's and credit cards.
- Travel Insurance
We strongly recommend travel insurance that includes trip cancellation coverage to protect against financial loss due to certain cancellations and other trip interruptions. You can purchase travel insurance online at www.insuremytrip.com. View our Terms & Conditions.
- Don't forget!
Passport (including a photocopy), plane ticket, wallet, credit cards, medications and a copy of prescription, sunscreen, sunglasses, bathing suit (for use at hotel pool), toiletries, watch, camera, camera batteries, and memory card/film, travel adapter for your camera batteries or other electronics (hotels will not have these available), travel alarm clock (most hotels use a phone message system for wake up calls, small travel iron (most hotels do not have this available), walking shoes.
- Train Tickets
We strongly recommend arriving at least one day before our adventure begins. Some travelers begin their trip with several days in Paris. Others may want spend the night in a city near Avignon. Aix-en-Provence is beautiful and has an easily accessible train station. This will help you adjust to the time change and enable you to best enjoy our adventure.
We meet our travelers at 2:30pm on Thursday at the Avignon TGV train station. Be careful because there are two train stations in Avignon, Avignon Centre and Avignon TGV. Please contact us if you have any questions about purchasing train tickets. To purchase train tickets, visit www.raileurope.com. For more information, please see our F.A.Q. page.
- Luggage
Limit your luggage to one medium-sized suitcase and one carry-on. Mark your luggage with your name, address and phone number. Remember that all liquids need to be packed in your checked luggage and not your carry-on. Leave room in your luggage for bringing back gifts and wine! Remember, when you are traveling on the trains, you will be your own porter, and you will be glad if you stick to one medium bag.
- Contacting Friends & Family on Tour
We like to recommend the old fashion postcard! You can also have your family & friends send an mail to: info@atasteoffrancetours.com.
Be aware that your cell phone may not work overseas. For those phones that will work, your provider usually requires advance notice of your overseas travel plans and you may be subject to hefty roaming fees. Contact your cell phone provider to find out whether or not your phone will work and a what fees you will be charged.
Overseas cell phones or SIM cards may be purchased before you travel from companies such as CellularAbroad.com and Telestial.com.
